This July, CESI has organized a Summer School in English, aimed at raising awareness of sustainable development among French and international students. The concept of this Summer School encourages participants to work on themes such as BIM, Smart Cities, eco-districts, decarbonization, and eco-innovation.

Exploring innovations in BIM and Smart Building

Summer School participants have mainly worked on projects relating to these two themes: Building Information Modeling (BIM) and Smart Building. Creativity, innovation, and energy efficiency have been essential qualities in meeting these challenges.

During their stay, they have participated in various workshops:

  • BIM for Sustainable Construction: a project dedicated to sustainable construction,
  • Practical work at the wastewater treatment plant La Cité de l’Eau et de l’Assainissement, focusing on the consequences of climate change on urban water management.
  • Discovery of Parisian architecture, from tunnels to towers and other iconic buildings.

Feedback of Summer School’s participants

I came across CESI’s Summer School by browsing the websites of different universities on the Internet. I’m from Quebec and my main goal is to understand how BIM is being used in French buildings. I also wanted to learn more about Revit (software that allows users to create a 3D building).

Thanks to the Summer School workshops and projects, we have gained a greater awareness of the environment. We have also learned about clash detection, which is a BIM technique. I work individually on a daily basis. On the other hand, we have all helped each other during the Summer School. I recommend CESI’s Summer School because it’s interesting to see everything that can be done here.

I’m a student at Tianjin University in China. I learned that CESI was organizing a Summer School thanks to a teacher. She introduced us to the event, what we’d be doing in Paris and the fact that we’d be learning more about BIM. That really interested me. I also decided to participate in the Summer School because I wanted to visit Paris, as it’s a beautiful city.

This Summer School has taught me a lot. What I found most interesting during the training program was using AutoCAD software to create 2D images of buildings. I also really enjoyed the moment when we had to draw a building and then understand its structure. My favorite part was visiting Paris, especially because my birthday coincided with it! I was able to celebrate it surrounded by all my classmates! I’d tell anyone who’s hesitating to join the Summer School to go for it! You’ll be able to gain different skills and build relationships with new people!

I’m doing a Master’s degree in Architecture in Ghana. At work, since my manager has connections with CESI, he organized my participation in the Summer School. I have participated because I wanted to broaden my knowledge. I wanted to meet new people, learn how things are done here and compare them to what is done where I come from.

Thanks to this Summer School and the teachers, I’ve learned a lot about Revit and BIM technology. Besides, I’ve also truly enjoyed visiting the Louis Vuitton Foundation. The Summer School has provided many opportunities that I couldn’t pass up, so I encourage anyone to participate.

It was our teacher who told us about the Summer School being organized by CESI and recommended that we enroll. It was a stroke of luck to participate in this Summer School because we wanted to gain knowledge about buildings from other countries.

The teaching method at the Summer School is different from our university because we have more freedom here. This Summer School makes us want to take a training program at CESI! The Summer School gave us the opportunity to meet people from all over the world.

It was a no-brainer to participate in this Summer School, since we are students at Tianjin University in China, which is a CESI partner school. Our college major is Smart Building. That’s why we wanted to participate in the Summer School, in order to discover the latest technologies related to buildings.

We come from the same university, so we have worked together during this training program. Participating in this event together allows us to help each other. Moreover, we were able to visit Paris and improve our English thanks to this Summer School.

I’m an architect and I have a design office in Algeria. I learned about CESI’s Summer School from a friend. I decided to participate because I’m interested in BIM, which is a technology used in buildings. So, I want to use BIM to develop my business. Participating in this Summer School allows me to develop my abilities to understand and use this modern technology known as BIM. During this Summer School, I can work individually while exchanging ideas and working with the other participants

I’m a civil engineer in Ghana. I’ve participated in this event to learn more about BIM and to see how I can use the knowledge gained at the Summer School in my career. It was a friend of mine who participated in the first CESI Summer School who told me about it. She told me that the training program helped her a lot and that it would be good for me to participate.

The workshops I found most interesting at the Summer School were on waste management and water treatment. I learned a lot about waste management, and it will definitely help me in my home country. The visit to the Fabrique du Métro was the best part of the Summer School because I learned how the transport system works in France. I’ve learned a lot during this Summer School, which was very innovative, and I hope to implement everything I’ve learned here when I return home.
