Camille Lissa is a student taking an Executive Post-Graduate Program® in Construction Project Management, Sustainable Construction option, on the Nantes campus. After attending CESI’s first Summer School, they decided to fine-tune their expertise in the field of Sustainable Construction, the digitalization of sustainable construction (BIM and smart building), the design and execution of eco-districts. A few weeks before the next Summer School to be held in July, Camille tells us about their experience last summer.

How did you find out about CESI’s Summer School and why did you decide to attend it?

I found out about CESI’s Summer School through LinkedIn. I was interested in the topics and wanted to deepen my knowledge of BIM and sustainable construction. This Summer School curriculum was very instructive. The tourism experience part and the training part sparked my curiosity. Besides, I wanted to discover how the school works because I was planning to do a training program at CESI.

What were your goals in attending the Summer School?

I noticed that the Summer School was open to an international audience. So I was expecting a cultural and generational mix, which would feed the discussions around the themes addressed. Moreover, the curriculum was in English. I wanted to take part in this event, also to improve my English level in the field. This was the main communication language during the Summer School.

What did you learn during this Summer School?

I was able to deepen my knowledge of sustainable construction and, more broadly, of ecological materials and, above all, BIM. Three sites were chosen by the school to explore each of the Summer School themes. We were able to evolve in different settings:

In Nanterre with the CESI campus, which allows a real immersion in the smart building world. We had to generate a QR Code using a 3D scan – known as a digital twin – of a building.

In Paris, with a guided tour through the Olympic Village to find out about the eco-materials used and how they are being used as part of the project. We continued our visit with an overview of how the construction site is organized.

In La Rochelle, with a focus on technological innovation in terms of energy production (solar and biomass) and energy storage (hydrogen). We were also able to discover the ‘made in CESI La Rochelle’ manufacturing process of an electric vehicle made from recycled materials.

Among the most memorable moments, I recall the cultural visits, which were as pleasant as they were enriching. As an engineer, the visit to the Olympic Village for the 2024 Olympic Games was impressive. With only a few weeks to go before the event, we had the privilege of discovering how the site was evolving during the construction phase.

Why would you recommend CESI’s Summer School?

This Summer School met all my expectations. The quality of the interventions and the curriculum was satisfactory. Anyone who decides to attend CESI’s Summer School will be properly oriented towards this year’s themes, according to the different curricula. This allows you to learn more about certain themes and develop them yourself later on.

I would like to thank the CESI teams who engaged with the Summer School participants!
